Breaking new ground: Mpya Digital’s expansion in Malmö
We are growing and expanding our business to Southern Sweden. The new hub is led by Ola Grändås, who started in his role in March 2024. In this article Ola shares his thoughts about the journey that led here, and what his vision for the new venture is.
Mpya Digital is expanding!
I’m excited to announce that I’m leading an ambitious project to build a new team of consultants covering the South of Sweden.
We will be based in Malmö – the gateway to Europe – and it feels like a natural place for Mpya Digital to be at. I’m looking to build an awesome team that can help all the great tech companies in this part of Sweden.
For me, it is a privilege and a fantastic opportunity to build something new from the ground up.
Itchy feet
I’ve had a bit of experience in startups, having spent nine years as co-founder of the consultant agency Tingent. Given the nature of the business, I feel like I know a fair bit of the people on the Stockholm tech scene. We worked with hundreds of IT consultancies, thousands of freelancers, and almost all the big tech companies.
After my son was born, I started to crave change. I was lucky enough to be able to work remotely for Tingent, so we relocated down to Malmö 18 months ago. It was a big decision, but it was amazing for the freedom, the extra space, and the change of pace.
I guess it’s human nature, but I don’t like to stay still for long. I started craving that collaboration again: having good people around to bounce ideas off. Share the good stuff and the bad.
So, I started looking for a new challenge.
I started craving that collaboration again: having good people around to bounce ideas off.
Over the years, I’ve followed the fortunes of Mpya Digital closely. Of all the Stockholm consultancies I’d met, I felt like I aligned with its values the most: Mpya consultants always had great profiles, great attitudes, and were brilliant to do business with. Without wanting to be too cliched, I thought of myself as a kind of kindred spirit.
When I got the opportunity to establish a brand new office here in Malmö, it was something I jumped at immediately.
Of course, in typical Mpya Digital fashion, this is not a regular expansion! I’ve been given a lot of flexibility to do things my way and create our own path. I want to generate the buzz of a startup, but also want to capture the unique essence of what it means to be an ‘Mpyan’.
That means finding like-minded people. Consultants who share our values, but are also entrepreneurial, daring, and motivated to be part of something new. I want our first hires to feel like founding members. I want them to come up with new ideas, break things, and make mistakes in an environment of openness, transparency, and empowerment.
This new Mpya Digital will be a place where everyone can contribute to the direction of the company, and feel like they are a part of the decision-making process.
Capturing the Malmö spirit
We want this venture to be the first of many new offices and new teams, not just in Sweden, but beyond. But we are also determined not to simply try and recreate Mpya Digital Stockholm down in the South. We want to build something special that taps into the unique spirit in this part of Sweden.
Malmö is one of the greenest cities in Europe, with over 500 km of cycle paths, while more than half of its residents are under 35, making it one of Sweden’s youngest cities. There is also a growing tech and gaming community here in Malmö, and throughout the Skåne region.
So, I believe there is a hotbed of tech talent here, and I can’t wait to meet as many people as possible.
To whomever who read all the way down to this: life is too short to work at a place that doesn’t bring you joy!
